Dathan is built on strong foundations which started when two ex-David Brown apprentices - Harry Moorhouse and Frank Rushworth - who met in the Navy in 1916.
The company was established in Huddersfield following the war and was named after the Admiral who had signed them both on the ship - Dathan.
Originally they produced vernier measuring instruments, but during the early 1940's this progressed to gear cutting tools.
The company has remained a family business with the grandsons of Harry Moorhouse now in charge.
Having been in business for such a long time, the company are specialists in the industry, with key skills retained and passed down as new employees join.
With a purpose-built 15,000sq ft factory, the company is at the forefront of technology and employ efficient, modern production methods such as 5S visual management, lean manufacture and the Kaisen method. Dathan also has a heavy programme of reinvestment into research and development into production methods, edge preparation and design software, through leading universities in the UK.
